Everyone participating in the Raid on a small boat is required to wear an approved life jacket (PFD). The Living Boat Trust has a few communal PFDs but not enough for everyone. If you have a life jacket please bring it along. Life jackets are much safer if fitted with a crotch strap to prevent them floating up. Crotch straps are cheap and readily available from most chandlers - please ensure you have a crotch strap on your PFD. If you are flying to Hobart and your life jacket is the type inflated with a CO2 cylinder you have to declare it to the airline ahead of time. You need to look up their Dangerous Goods pages on the web and it will tell you what you have to do. You will probably be required to send them an email with your flight details and booking reference. For example (to Qantas): “To: dgenquiries@qantas.com.au - I will be travelling from Melbourne to Hobart and return, carrying a PFD with a CO2 cartridge. This will be in checked luggage. My booking reference is ABC123. Flight JQ123 27th Jan and JQ456 20th Feb 2018. ... “. The airline should respond with their approval and advice on what to do when checking in. Don’t forget to contact all airlines if you are using several carriers on separate tickets. |
