The 2017 Raid officially starts with Registration for participants at Recherche Bay on Wednesday 1 February and finishes when the fleet arrives in Hobart to join the sail past at the start of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival on Friday 10 February, 2017. We will be busy doing last minute preparation and packing on Tuesday 31 January - if you are around you are most welcome to join us. We plan to have a community dinner at the Living Boat Trust shed on Tuesday (31/1) which will be a great way to start meeting people. There are places to camp on the Franklin foreshore near the LBT Living Boat Trust for people arriving early. Alternatively you could use the Info Exchange (link here to: TN17 Info Exchange) to see if any of the locals would be prepared to offer you a billet at their house in the lead up to the Raid. Transport will be arranged to take people from Franklin to Recherche on 1 Feb. The first two nights (1 and 2 Feb) we camp in Recherche Bay and the first day on the water (Thursday 2 Feb) will be a shake-down day before we head out into open waters on 3 Feb. There is no Southport Regatta this year so we will spend just one night on the lawns at Jetty House rather than two as in previous years. On 4 Feb we camp adjacent to the Port Esperance Sailing Club in Dover (PESC) and will be joining the PESC members for entertainment in the evening. Our final night (5 Feb) on the mainland will be at Randalls Bay with its stunning white sand beach. We then head across to Bruny Island and will spend two nights (6 and 7 Feb) on the beautiful and very private Simpsons Bay. We've booked the Alonnah Community Hall a few kilometres away for those two nights just in case the weather turns foul. Having two nights at Simpsons will give people the opportunity for walks, day sails/rows or just sitting under a tree with a book. Our next camp (8 Feb) is Halfmoon Bay off Quarantine Bay and we are hoping to get access to the historic Quarantine Station while we are there. The final night (9 Feb) takes us back to the main land, to South Arm, which sets us up well for a short sail/row to Blinking Billy / John Garrow light to join the Parade of Sails (10 Feb) which marks the start of the Australian Wooden Boat Festival and the final leg of our tn17 Raid. Learning from the recent New Zealand Raid, we plan to meet up for lunch on most days as this keeps the fleet together and provides an opportunity to switch boats for those not wanting to row all the way. There are still a few spots available for both tn17 and the Return Raids. Preference will be given to people wanting to do all 9 days of tn17 or 3 days of the Return Raid.
