Powerful, Uplifting and Unforgettable

These three words remind you of what? Yes, you guessed it…something to do with “Women on Water” in Franklin. The group has come up with another fundraising event in September that is not to be missed.

In July there was a meal with entertainment at the Living Boat Trust that was fully booked and enjoyed by all. Now September offers food plus a movie at a wonderful venue – the Palais in Franklin. This historic building is known for its heritage of film-screening – from silent movies through to the “talkies”, or movies with sound. The building was renovated, the roof was raised and a free-standing balcony was built in the 1930’s to accommodate an avid theatre-going audience.

Moving with the times, this digital production, “Searching for Sugarman”, is aiming to attract a big 21st Century audience. Released in 2012, it won an Academy Award for the best documentary a year later and was described as “Powerful, uplifting and unforgettable”. It is about Rodriguez, a singer/songwriter in the 70’s.

So mark Friday 26th September- the night before the AFL Grand Final- in your diaries. Bring a friend-or team- and enjoy a good modern story within the historic ambience of the Palais. Tickets include food, the bar is open for drinks from 6pm and the proceeds go towards the International St Ayles Skiff Regatta to be held in Franklin in February 2015. And there is guaranteed to be an added extra…
