Thursday saw Tasmania represented in 4 events providing supporters with a lot of excitement. The first was the final of the mixed over 50's, and having qualified 11th fastest in a field of 14, the crew aimed for a better time....13 mins 36 seconds later and a new pb saw them pull up at the ferry terminal in 9th position. More celebrations, cheers from the pebbled beach and the new crew were ready for the heats of the mixed open. Just under 14 mins with new rowers Laura, Deb,Martin, Tim and Shane in cox meant the team had qualified for the afternoon final. Meanwhile the ladies borrowed a rower from the Cockenzie club....builders of the Boatie Best that was on loan for the championships, and set out for the over 50's ladies event. The jabble....waves and wind in the crossing...was increasing and so were the nerves. Coming in 9th, again to the cheers of the crowd, was a pleasing result for Cox Tim, Di in stroke,Jane, Cockenzie Carol...who has been talked into coming to visit Tasmania...and Marguerite. The last event of the day saw the mixed open final and some exciting results with close times...13.42 for our crew, 13.41 for the next two with around 12 mins winning the event. The team song of Waltzing Matilda with rowing additions was practised to the delight of onlookers. Many people throughout the day visit the Australian camp including an ex Kingston resident who is helping to wave our flag. Curry and quiz night tonight with some 250m sprint races...from the wee pier to the harbour...which we will join tomorrow. Bagpipes and Scottish music wafting through the summery warm skies....
