'The LBT was well represented at the South West Regatta held on the first weekend in March.  Heat wave conditions on the Saturday did not deter the skiff rowers from qualifying for the finals in both the women’s and mixed crews, the women’s crew being the fastest qualifiers.   Finals were held in 39.7 degrees and remarkably all completed the course. The women came in a very close second and the mixed team a credible third.

Sunday brought lower temperatures and a day of whale boat racing in the Australian Whale Boat Championship. The Port Fairy Team lent us the remarkable Colin as the sweep oarsman for the mixed crew and our very own Barbara Dawson did a fabulous job on the sweep oar for the women’s crew. Port Fairy once again provided us with an experienced whale boat rower to complete the crew.

Results for the whale boat were: LBT women, second. LBT mixed, third. The times for the mixed finals were faster than the men’s. A fabulous effort by all crew members in both events who looked outstanding in their orange uniforms.

The LBT has been represented since 2017 in the regatta and intend to go again in 2020. Please consider joining us as we need a larger contingent to compete in all the events. it’s a great weekend.

Huge thanks to Huonville Bendigo Bank and Jackman’s Body Works for helping us get ‘Billie’ to Warrnambool. Also thanks to the Warrnambool City Council for staging the event and Patrick and Susie for making us so welcome.'
