Visiting Bert Van Baar

From Richard, Our Man in Europe:
Many of us have happy memories of the Dutch team who built a sailing dinghy for the 2017 Wooden Boat Festival at the Wooden Boat Centre.
The leader of that team was Bert van Baar, who remains a good friend of the Trust.
Recently we had an opportunity to visit his boat school at the Navy Museum at Den Helder in the Netherlands.

He is currently working on, wait for it, a St Ayles Skiff!  The pack is being broken out this morning.

We came away just a little bit jealous.  His shed itself is great, but the thing that really got our envy juices flowing was the location: the old navy yards which have been converted into a museum.
There are vast spaces and areas under cover, slips for boats of all size (up to battleship), moorings by the metre and dozens of great old boats.
For anyone touring in these parts it is a recommendation.
