The Skiff: a latter day Cutty Sark?

Rob Ayliffe reports:

'While there [in Geelong] I also had a good look under the superb model they have there of the Cutty Sark.  A famous working voyaging sailing ship, if ever there was one.

Interestingly for me the under body was not that different from our [St Ayles] Skiffs, especially the dead straight run;  the deadwood/length wise keel in almost the exact same in proportion, and even more interesting the rudder depth was similar too, to our boats. ie the lower tip pretty much in line with and definitely not below the run of the deadwood.'

We will take Rob's word for all of that, but the Cutty Sark does seem to have the wood on us in the figurehead department. Worth taking up the chisels and gouges and providing some competition?
