The Dutch really love their leeboards

Writing about Dutch boat builders last week reminded me of a visit to the Dutch traditional boat show at Enkhuizen a few years ago.  Leeboards are unusual in Australia as a means of reducing leeway (going sideways under sail) but very popular in Holland in all sizes of boat.

The grey shapes outside the LBT shed are not 1950's modernistic coffee table tops, but leeboards for our own Gretchen, eagerly waiting to be used.
