Spring gale dismasting

The best place to be on Sunday was tied up to the wharf, below decks, whittling and whipping and doing a bit of scrimshaw work and the like.  Even ashore there could be trouble if too much sail was set.  The blue gum pictured, 30 metres tall and half a metre through the trunk, clearly didn't get it's royals and topgallants down in time.
