Proposed Mini Raid or Long Row; Southport/Lune River. Weekend of 9/10 April.

Some of us have Raid Withdrawal Symptoms, others have Long Row Envy, so without further ado, let’s get on the water again soon. There are two options open to those who are interested.
  • A two day trip; camping overnight at Southport Hotel Campsite. [Evening meal at pub, breakfast BYO, Camp kitchen, electric BBQ.]  We meet at the boat ramp at 9 am, launch our boats and row/sail around Southport Bay, perhaps as far as Southport Island depending on sea state. [length of row/sail could be 10 km].  A late lunch could be on a sheltered beach back towards the narrows. There is a walk from here to Southport Lagoon, a conservation area [1.5 hrs return].  Return to the ramp, leave boats there and set up camp.  There are various things to do nearby; Ida bay Railway, Hastings Caves, Thermal Springs, sleeping...
  • A one day trip; where day one and day two participants row together into Hastings Lagoon and up the Lune River as far as we can. [It could be up to 16 km in total with a BYO lunch break somewhere]. Some people have already shown interest in rowing the skiffs on this day.
We will endeavour to get as many boats down as possible, bring your own if you have a trailer. Cygnet and Taroona have been invited to bring their skiffs. We will have two skiffs and up to four Grebes. There is talk of bringing Swiftsure and Syrah as well. The more the merrier.

This is a proposal, and details will be added or modified as people and boats register with...
