The long 8km row around Hope Island was brought forward to kick off the racing events as winds were worsening and there was the likelihood of cancellation. The Women’s Castle Forbes crew in Imagine took the lead and maintained the pressure until the end, followed by Five-Mile Crew in Billie and Dover in Freyja.

Despite the hot and blustery conditions, the St Ayles Skiff racing segment of the Dover Regatta drew enthusiastic cheers from the onlookers as four skiffs battled it out throughout a tough 1km course. New rowers and keen crew joined the 1km races which bodes well for Dover, who are building their own community skiff this year. It was great to see more enthusiasm for community building and rowing of St Ayles Skiffs, a phenomenon spreading around Australia and throughout the world. To join in this activity in the Huon Valley there are opportunities in Cygnet, Franklin and now Dover.
