At the last State election the Huon Valley Council received $750k for a project with the following outcomes.
  • Marina area providing areas for commercial vessels and tourist cruises to dock.
  • New public jetty area, following the demolition of the former Wharf area in front of the Evaporators sit.
  • Pedestrian linkages between the existing walking trails and the Marina are.
Stabilising the Evaporator Shed site was deemed to be the most important goal to achieve, but an engineering report has shown that the funds available are insufficient for this purpose, and the council are now looking for other alternative ways of achieving the listed outcomes.  They met with the LBT (represented by David Pittaway and Richard Forster) and other interested parties on the 18th of December and  we have submitted a response to them: https://tinyurl.com/sezjjpj .  They wish to have a further meeting to discuss our priorities.  As many members will be aware over the years there has been a lot of consideration given to how best to utilise the foreshore and  this will be the basis for any submissions we make.  As an example the pic below shows possible pontoon locations, all of which have pros and cons, but all of which are now on the table.  We will endeavor to keep everybody informed, but if you have a particular interest speak to your friendly committee members, or email sec@lbt.org.au
