'I have obtained a sample of a new engineered boat-building timber product from Finland called 'Vendia Marine Plank' for a build of a Finnish 'Niko' design recreational rowing boat.
The Niko is one or two person design, with fixed or sliding seats, based on wooden boat styles commonly raced in Finland. It was designed specifically for the Vendia product and to be easily completed by amateur builders in a course situation using batten-seam construction. The Wooden Boat Centre are currently considering its suitability for a course. Basic specs of the boat are: Length 5.85m, Breadth 1.44m, Empty Weight ~58kg. I intend to display the boat the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Feb 2017 both as a promotion of the 'sustainable' Vendia product and also recreational rowing more generally.
This project needs some funds to reach completion in time for the AWBF and I would welcome such from any LBT members, in exchange for whole or part ownership. Please contact me directly to find out more about the project on 0497 094 497.
