For those who like to get down and dirty with their maritime history John Wadsley writes:

'This time we have a local historian presenting on the Shag Bay fertilizer factory and its operations, including the devastating explosion  which shattered the bonemill in 1915, resulting in the deaths of two of the site workers - a father and a son. In this presentation, Maria Grist will explore some of the history of the two companies who operated in Shag Bay, as well as the events leading up to and surrounding the explosion. There will also be included some references to the vessels which were used to service the plant.  Please find attached our flyer ( for the next MMT Monthly Talk to be held on Tuesday 4 July 2017, 12 noon to 1pm.  Usual place, Royal Society Room in TMAG, Davey Street entrance.'
