'The LBT became an incorporated body on 24th June 1998, and we want to celebrate this year’s anniversary and use it to reflect on where we have come from and where we are going.

You dear Members can play your part by telling us what and who you’d like to know about, or maybe you like to write a piece yourself.

As an example of the latter, some of the anecdotes associated with the LBT journey will be part of this correspondent’s contribution to the anniversary, to be shared with those who weren’t members at the time who want to know more about the people, the boats, machinery and events which have been the making of the Trust as we know it today. Where appropriate these will be published in the newsletter.

Similar contributions from others are welcome. They can be simple and meaningful, without large expenditure of time, money and energy. Just send your story and photo for the commemoration to the LBT secretary (  Please try to keep your newsletter items under 300 words.

There have been a number of ideas floated (pardon the pun) about how we could commemorate this milestone; a Ritual Boat Burning, Long Table Dinner, a Parade of Boats etc and we your committee would like to know from you and have your participation. What would the Tuesday guys like to do, the Monday night Dinner people, Rowers, Sailors, WOW, TN Enthusiasts? Again, send your ideas in (, or enter them through the form below (

What is The LBT Committee going to do you may ask? We intend to hold a special 20th Year conversation and do some navel gazing about our past present and future. Watch this space!

Thank you, Your History correspondent,

Jilly Archer.
