LBT 'use of assets'

The committee asked Martin Riddle to develop an overall policy to help us manage our assets. Here are the first couple of paragraphs from the document he has written, which has been endorsed by the committee.

'The Living Boat Trust is a membership-based organisation, the assets of which (such as workshops machinery and tools, kitchen, boats, trailers etc.) have been acquired through the efforts of members and belong to the members collectively. Many of the assets of the LBT will deteriorate more quickly if not used regularly.

The overall guiding principle for managing the use of LBT assets by the members is that use should be encouraged. If any decision, rule or fee-for-use has the effect of reducing usage then it should be reviewed with the view to removing any disincentive to use. This Policy together with the statement of organisational ‘Objects and Purposes’ in the LBT’s constitution should be used for direction if uncertainty about use of LBT assets arises.'
