'Could “Inala of Huon” be an exciting new addition to our activities?

The owner of “Inala of Huon”, the 34 ft Huon pine yacht featured for sale in an earlier post, has said that he would like to donate her to LBT if she would be taken care of and used. She’s in Sydney at the moment but would return to the place she was built, which is rather appropriate.

Similarly, the committee now has the policy that in order to accept a larger boat like this there has to be enough commitment from a number of members to use and maintain her, much like the Nancy Fanciers. She is a lovely boat, in good condition, which could be used for:
  • instruction in maintaining, navigating and sailing a larger boat;
  • short coastal cruises by members, with a modest charter fee;
  • participating in weekend races at the Huon Yacht Club, which will enhance our local collaboration;
  • entry into local Regattas and Festivals;
  • another support/accommodation vessel for raids.

Maintaining her may involve significant spending from time to time, such as new rigging or sails which is why we need this boat to be used and useful. To enable the owner to make other plans we need a positive response from members in the next week. We would like some real commitment but even if you can only come for a few sails per year and a bit of help for maintenance, please let us know so we can make a decision quickly.'

Description of boat (from advertisement):
'Yacht built by Athol Walters in Port Huon. 34 foot huon pine classic. 12 hp Yanmar. 3 jibs, main and spinnaker. Sails beautifully, especially upwind. Standing head-room. Well cared-for. Needs an owner who will sail her more often than we can these days.'  See
