A couple of LBTers at large spotted a familiar looking boat in Reykjavick (Iceland) harbour (pics below), and on investigation it proved to be the Sea Shepherd 's 'Brigitte Bardot' which has in the past tied up in and operated from Hobart. She has been in Iceland to disrupt the Minke Whale season, which did not go ahead this year, probably because of economic considerations, but a victory of sorts. Her next port of call is, apparently, in the Galapagos Islands to confront illegal fishers there. Just across the harbour is the 'opposition': a commercial whaling vessel, also pictured. And to fill out the 'confrontation at sea' story, the 'Odinn' is berthed in a prominent position. She was a major participant in the 'cod wars', cutting the lines of hundreds of trawlers. |
