Title: Navigation Hazard – Lower D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River

Notice Content: Mariners are advised  Huon Aquaculture has had a mooring system fail resulting in 14 cages drifting between Roaring Beach and Satellite Island.  The cages are 168m in circumference. One cage is under tow and 13 others are in a group connected by the mooring system. There will be ropes and plastic hose etc. dragging behind for 500m. They occupy an area of about 500m2 and are roughly 1km SE of Huon Island as of 0900 hours on 02 January 2014. It is estimated their speed is about 0.7 kts ina Westerly direction. This could be slowing.  Mariners should exercise caution in the area.
