In a previous post we reported admiringly (and somewhat enviously) that the Women's Open and 50+ teams had posted times of around 53 minutes in the 8km Castle to Crane international open boat rowing time trial.  The results are now in, and the reported times were good enough to WIN THOSE DIVISIONS.  We are now doubly envious.  Congratulations to all involved (see their pictures below).  This is a huge result.

Meanwhile, for another perspective on the event, LBT member Sally Ward reports from Scotland.

'Congratulations to all the crews who took up the Castle To Crane 5 mile/8km challenge on 19th September.

You were in my thoughts - and the LBT shirt was on my back - as Team Esther rowed the 5 mile course here at Nairn - completely blind as the sea haar rolled in as we set off, then cleared just in time for the team photos. Thankfully we didn't encounter any of the basking sharks that have been hanging out in our waters this past week. At 6-10m in length, they would have stopped us in our tracks!

We were chuffed just to be able to compete, given that we've only been back on the water for a fortnight, so we were over the moon when both Team Dulsie (Men over 50) and Team Esther (Mixed over 50) managed to come in sub 1 hour.'

What a great event this proved to be with 120 entries from around the world - fingers crossed we can all do it for real on the Clyde next year.'
