Barbara Dawson writes: 'In conditions reminiscent of Shackleton’s Antarctic voyages, Billie and Imagine - plus 2 double kayaks - bravely set off late on Saturday afternoon with the tide and wind, in the direction of the grey skies and drizzle of Huonville. On reaching our goal in record time, we discovered the fish and chip cafe was holding its staff Christmas party and thus closed to the public. Undaunted, we ordered our meals from the newly opened Ranelagh General Store - their squid and chips in particular, eaten to general acclaim. Luckily while awaiting for our repast to be delivered, we were able to make good use of the shelter which Huon Valley Council has thoughtfully constructed for stranded mariners, and a cache of local aged cider was much appreciated as an aperitif - thanks to Lorrie and Warren. After the last of the chips had been donated to the ducks, the various crews embarked for another quick trip home before the sun set.' PS Gerry performed admirably amongst all the highly trained WOW athletes, and it was reported that he managed to come ashore with his virtue intact. |
