From Graham Rankin: 'Day 19 of the skiff build had us scratching our heads, when we
positioned the fifth plank things just didn't look right at the
forward third, with the overlap too high at the gains. Jeremy Clowes had
warned us the Cygnet build had had some issues with this plank also,
and I think I remember Peter Laidlaw mentioning it also. After much
tossing and turning Peter Heading decided the only way to fix the
problem was to recut the forward scarphs and re align the planks. Careful
work with the Japanese saw and re marking gave us the result we needed.
A quick re glue had us back on track, although we are a day behind
where we hoped to be with the planking. A big effort this week should
see both planks five and six glued in place by Friday
(fingers crossed). On a more positive note, the oars are close to being
finished and are looking a treat and the rudder blades have been glued!' |
