From Peter Heading: 'In traditional boatbuilding today would have been a rivetting affair but for us it was sticky fingers! The second pair of planks are now glued in place as are the blade edges of the remaining two oars. Away from the glue another small group made up a spar gauge ,marked out the handles of two oars and turned the square sectioned timber into octagonal handles with an assortment of spokeshaves ,Next week should see the eight sided handles turned into sixteen sided sections and then finally rounded off for the finished blister generating shapes some rowers will get to know intimately !' |
